More than 50 Orang Asli from Kampung Dusun, Chini here today staged a protest alleging that their forest-based livelihood was affected after about 16ha of their village land was trespassed upon by outsiders.
Chairman of the Village Security and Development committee, Mohd Dikui Ahang, who represented more than 1,000 of the villagers claimed that Orang Asli reserve land was being used by these outsiders for commercial farming since 1997.
"We did not give them any permission and they did not pay any rental or any part of their income from the farming," he said yesterday.
Dikui said the matter was made known to the Pekan District Office in July 2006 and the Pekan branch of the Orang Asli Affairs Department in June 2007 but no action was taken.[read more]
