[...] Police stopped a bus ferrying 45 youths, aged 13 to 16, in a routine check at a roadblock near the Kuala Kangsar toll plaza of the North-South Expressway about 12.30pm, but were not allowed to go into the bus to check the personal details of the passengers, said district police chief Supt Abdul Gaffar Muhamad.
Dr Jeyakumar, who was travelling in another vehicle, was among those who obstructed the police from performing their duties, Gaffar said, adding that the group was then ordered to go to the police station, 15km away, so that the matter could be resolved.
"There were no fights. It was noisy. There was some pushing, but that's normal when there are so many people."
He said police had no prior information about the cycling campaign. He said the 20 uniformed policemen were only conducting routine checks.
On the allegation that police personnel had groped the breasts of a Jerit coordinator, Gaffar said he had advised the individual who made the claim to make a police report.[read more]
