MP, assemblymen and 20 others to be charged

PETALING JAYA: Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua, assemblymen Lau Weng San and Ronnie Liu and 20 other people will be charged Friday in the Sessions Court for allegedly participating in an illegal gathering.

The 23 -- including activists and a priest -- were arrested on Nov 9 last year under Section 27 of the Police Act for allegedly taking part in an illegal assembly after several warnings to disperse were ignored.

The gathering was a candlelight vigil at the Petaling Jaya City Council building here to protest the Internal Security Act, among others, and was organised by the Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections, also known as Bersih. - Star
