Sultan’s Jubilee function put off

IPOH, Feb 8 – A people’s function with the Perak Sultan in Batu Gajah in conjunction with the silver jubilee of the ruler’s reign, scheduled for this Tuesday from 4.30pm, has been postponed to another date.

State Secretary Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Hashim said the Sultan of Perak had consented to the postponement of the function after considering the safety of the people.

He said Sultan Azlan Shah had asked the Perak police chief to brief the ruler on public order and security situation in the state.

“The Sultan was informed that the current situation was under control,” he said in a statement issued here today.

However, Abdul Rahman said, in view of the trouble created in Kuala Kangsar on Feb 6 by a certain group, the Perak police chief had advised the Sultan accordingly.

“The Sultan considered the public safety factor and consented that the function be postponed to another date to be announced later,” he said. – Bernama
