[...] Fishermen who began a nationwide three-day strike yesterday may extend it unless the Government agrees to lower the diesel price for them.
Pantai Remis assemblyman Nga Kor Ming said the strike involved some 45,000 fishermen from seven states and about 15,000 vessels.
“They are protesting against the government’s refusal to reduce the diesel charge, although the price of crude oil has dipped,” he said yesterday.
“The strike will go on for three days but if the Government remains stubborn, it will continue.”
He said the fishermen were unhappy that the price of subsidised diesel had been maintained at RM1.43 per litre although crude oil was now at US$42 (RM150) per barrel.[read more]
