Barisan to field local for Bkt Gantang

IPOH: Barisan Nasional has decided that a local from Umno would be fielded as candidate for the Bukit Gantang parliamentary by-election.

Deputy prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said on Sunday that the candidate would be from among those who were actively involved at the divisional level and accepted by the people.

This decision should put a stop to speculation that Barisan would field an outsider, he said.

Najib, who is Umno deputy president, made the announcement after chairing a Perak Barisan closed-door meeting at the state Umno headquarters in Ipoh to discuss the preparation for the byelection as well as the latest development in the newly-formed Barisan state government. [read more]
